Freud's Legacy and New Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Autism

2025-01-28

This special issue of EDNA seeks to redefine the role of psychoanalysis in understanding and addressing autism. By moving beyond outdated stereotypes and considering the evolution of psychoanalysis itself, as well as new first-person perspectives on autism, we aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue that integrates psychoanalysis with other fields of knowledge, such as neuroscience and third-wave psychologies.

We invite researchers, clinicians, and autistic individuals to share their perspectives and experiences to build a deeper, more humane, and more effective understanding of autism.

Areas of interest:

  • History and evolution: Critical analysis of psychoanalysis' legacy in autism.
  • Conceptual reviews: Current reviews of psychoanalytic concepts relevant to understanding autism and other developmental conditions.
  • Autistic experience and subjectivity: Exploring the subjective experience of autistic individuals from a psychoanalytic perspective.
  • Psychoanalysis, neurodiversity, and intersectionality: Exploring the relationship between autistic subjectivity and other social identities.
  • Psychoanalysis and neuroscience: Intersections and enrichment of both disciplines; implications for clinical and educational practice.
